Kiamichi Refuge Book One of the Kiamichi Survival Series eBook CA Henry

This is an author whose fiction I shall follow! The story is complex, though not unnecessarily so. She acquainted the reader with each character and was thorough in fully developing the main characters. And the story stood on it's own merit and wasn't one of those deplorable 'serial' or 'episode' stories. Bravo!

I've become interested in realistic, apocalyptic fiction, and this is one of the best I've read. No zombies for me, thanks! This is a realistic scenario of the type of societal meltdown and violence that our country could face at some point in the coming years.

My only criticism is that when the details were related as to how the country was falling apart, it was rather rushed. That part deserved a few more pages, in order to allow the reader to absorb what a realistic domino-effect there would be.

If you want a review, that was it. The rest of this is some of my thoughts.

This story should be a wake-up call. Turn off the TV! Everyone needs to build self-sufficient skill sets. Americans have, as a whole, become clueless and inept in ways to take care of themselves. People don't need to quit their jobs and live off the grid. They should simply learn to be GOOD at some practical things. Just because you've caught 'a' fish, doesn't mean you could feed your family. New personal accomplishments or family hobbies will be valuable on so many levels. Teach yourself and your children practical things that will both nurture a sense of pride and stockpile wonderful family memories.

Americans need to be more self-reliant. Young people of all ages should be learning the importance of gardening for health. More people young and old should make an effort to be more fit. America is too dependent on electronics and many people are too self-absorbed to develop deep, caring friendships. Sadly, along the way, we have lost the tradition of passing knowledge to the next generations.

Kiamichi Refuge Book One of the Kiamichi Survival Series eBook CA Henry Reviews

I enjoy reading post-apocalyptic stories and was intrigued because this was written by a female author. Her take on the story and events that occur was no different than the male authors who dominate this genre. Quite a few diverse characters have been introduced and I already have several favorites. I look forward to the continuation and expansion of this story.
Loved it. Hated I had chores to do, it was so hard to put it down. I know it's fiction, but it makes you think of what could possibly happen in the world to come.
I can add this to my short list of favorite dystopian series. I love the description of the area, and the lodge is awesome - something I s would love to live in.
There are some things I wonder why Uncle Ernie didn't do being such a hardcore prepper, who truly believed a calamity would happen, but maybe as I read on, that may be remedied with Erin.
The book's are age appropriate for even young adults given the lack of swearing, even by the truly lowlife's existing in the story. The scenes that could be more graphic are still fine, given that you can use your imagination to fill in the rest if you do choose.
This was a great read, it was believable, had a good story plot with characters you wanted to root for. I will be looking for book two
I love post apocalyptic fiction. This one did not disappoint. Great story with superb character development. It also made me want to move to Oklahoma. Can't wait to read the sequels!
This thought-provoking novel ranks up there with the best in prepper fiction. It is somewhat instructional, without overburdening the reader with the technicalities of survival in an "the end of the world as we know it" type scenario. The characters seem like people who might live in your hometown and you feel good about rooting for the group struggling to survive. There's even a touch of romance, without any filth. The plot draws the reader in and keeps moving to a satisfying conclusion. Even though there are currently 3 books in the series, you don't have to read all three to get to a resolution for these characters, but after readying this book, I bet, like me, you will want to finish the series.
I was pulled into this story from the very first chapter. This story is based in reality except for the fact that most people don't have unlimited resources to be prepared for what will come. It does open your eyes to the reality of world events and the possible and probable outcome.
I am a firm believer that good people who band together are much more formidable that those who stand alone. This book puts this into the light. If nothing else, this book gives us all a chance to think about what we need to do when society, as we know it, falls apart and betrays the very core of all that we have come to know and value.
Be ready on any level that you can and don't keep you head in the sand.
I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to be more self reliant and willing to do what needs to be done to protect yourself, your family, your farm and your values.
Thank you to the author for shedding light on a difficult and very real issue. I am looking forward to your next book !
